PIP's Core Programs PDF Print E-mail

Partnership in Philanthropy offers three fundraising and capacity-building programs to the New Jersey nonprofit community:

  • PIP's Two Year Capacity Building Program
  • Prep for PIP
  • PIP's Pre-Assessment Service.

1. PIP's Two Year Capacity Building Program. This intensive fundraising and management development program consists of 165 hours of professional consulting over the course of two years and is best suited for nonprofits that are reasonably well-established and ready to move to the next level. The objective of this program is to enhance a nonprofit's ability to raise money by strengthening its board structure and make up, and to increase its staff and board members' skills and knowledge of fundraising techniques, specifically, prospect research, donor cultivation, solicitation and follow-up and stewardship of donor funds. Through enhanced funding capacity, PIP clients become better positioned to carry out their missions which, taken together, expand opportunities and help build a stronger local community.

PIP's consultants are trained to tailor the PIP curriculum to the specific needs of their PIP client while remaining focused on PIP's goal for each client – significantly increasing philanthropic revenues in three years from the start of the program.

The components of PIP's Two Year Capacity Program are:

Hands-on Consulting - A competent, experienced NJ fundraising professional is assigned to work directly with the participant organization. PIP consultants receive a below market rate honorarium of $55 per hour and agree to donate 1 hour of pro bono service for every two hours for which they are compensated.

Assessment - Each participant organization undergoes a comprehensive "Fund Raising/Management Capacity Assessment", which makes use of tools designed by the Partnership to establish a base line that details the organization's strengths and weaknesses and defines PIP's areas of service.

Board Profile - The organization's volunteer structure is reviewed to determine its strengths and areas of expertise and outreach that are absent and in need of development.

Workshops and Training - A series of formal training sessions and workshops are given by PIP professionals for staff and volunteers of the participant organizations.

Annual Fund Raising Plan Model - At the conclusion of the Year One, the participating organization is presented a model Annual Fund Raising Plan tailored to their specific organization. Included with this plan are a series of additional components that can be added by the organization as its capacity grows to meet increased needs.

Re-Assessment - The conclusion of PIP's Year One service is a repeat of the "Fundraising/Management Capacity Assessment" to formally measure progress and define a "To Do" list to keep the progress moving forward.

Hot Line Services - Access to advise and answers to pressing questions are available from Partnership Staff or Consultants.

Year Two Follow-up – Quarterly consultations are made by the PIP Consultant to monitor progress and/or trouble shoot problems.

2. Prep for PIP is a six-month program for those nonprofits that need to strengthen their infrastructure and create a strong foundation before they can fully benefit from a more sustained fundraising consultancy. The focus of Prep for PIP is to enable a nonprofit's board and staff to recognize and create new opportunities for the organization, and to develop the skills necessary to act on them.

3. PIP's Pre-Assessment Service is a one-month program for those nonprofits that need to start at an even more basic level, where a PIP consultant works with the nonprofit's staff and leadership to assess the organization's strengths and weaknesses in order to determine clear and meaningful next steps.

Additional Services:
PIP also accepts requests for shorter-term special projects and/or workshops on a case-by-case basis. The price structure for these services will be individually determined (see "Other PIP Services").
