William J. Horn conducts board and staff retreats for non-profit organizations and programs designed to facilitate strategic planning, visioning, board and program development and board involvement in fundraising. Among his activities are retreat and leadership development programs for Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the Boys & Girls Club of the Bellport Area, the Huntington Station Learning Enrichment Center, the Two Ten Footwear Foundation in Boston, MA and through the Partnership in Philanthropy in New Jersey.

Mr. Horn's non-profit experience extends over more than four decades with senior hands-on and management positions in development, communications, marketing, and alumni relations. These include the first (and very successful) major capital campaigns launched during the 1970s and '80s at New York University, Columbia University, and Boys Clubs of America. Mr. Horn founded or rejuvenated advancement programs at Manhattan College, Pratt Institute, the New York Academy of Sciences, and Gilda's Club Worldwide, recruiting and training staff, building organizational infrastructures and raising gift-income to record levels. His international experience includes fundraising responsibilities for the international institutes and cultural centers of New York University and consulting with Gilda's Club board and staff members in the U.S. Canada and the U.K. As the first vice president for resource development for the Northeast Region of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, he directed NE fundraising and board development programs for the national organization and provided board development and fundraising training programs for local Club board and staff leadership.

In marketing and communications he has directed brand, image development and identity programs, and advertising campaigns. He has written many newsletters and reports, and worked with all media and in Web-site development. His development background includes major gifts, individual, corporate and foundation fund-raising, planned giving, annual giving, international giving, special events, proposal development, cause-related marketing, capital campaigns (including feasibility studies), case statement development, donor recognition programs and dedications, rating and screening sessions, and prospect research.

While serving as an organization and board development consultant to the board of the Boys & Girls Club of the Bellport Area, he wrote Bellport's Board of Directors Resource Guide to document the Club's extensive intensive visioning program, help orient new board members, and serve as a resource for strategic board development and board operations.

Horn has a B.A. from Manhattan College, did graduate work at Montclair State and St. John's University, and studied at the Parsons School of Design. He has been a speaker on development topics at the Association of Fund-Raising Professionals and at Yale University. He has been a member of the Planned Giving Group of New York and the National Society of Fund Raising Executives (New York) and presented sessions and workshops at the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Northeast Leadership Conference in 2005 and 2006.
