| Chatham, NJ, June 11, 2009 … At a time when many nonprofit organizations are enduring one of the most challenging fundraising periods in recent memory and finding it difficult to fulfill their missions, Partnership in Philanthropy (PIP) has just raised $100,000 through its annual fundraising dinner event - an amount that will allow it to continue its years-long tradition of improving the capabilities of nonprofits in New Jersey, enabling them to better serve their communities.
According to PIP Executive Director Becky Dembo, the timing of the newly-raised funds couldn't be more favorable. "We are currently preparing to announce the names of the nonprofit organizations PIP has selected to receive fundraising consulting services for our 2009-2010 program cycle," she said, "and we are deeply appreciative of the contributions made by individuals, foundations and corporations in recognition of PIP's 2009 honorees - Antonia Marotta-Brinton and Jervis Brinton and Sharon and Peter Cocoziello. A portion of the money raised at our Annual Dinner Event will be used to hire development professionals who will guide and assist our nonprofit clients in enhancing and expanding their abilities to fulfill their missions to the people they serve."
PIP offers a program designed to maximize the fundraising and management capabilities of nonprofit organizations through a system of annual consulting cycles, each lasting 24 months. The statewide organization carefully screens and hires professional fundraising consultants to work closely with staff and volunteer boards of selected nonprofits, providing training and mentoring in resource and volunteer development, planning and community outreach. As part of PIP's contract, the nonprofits selected each year compensate the fundraising consultants at a rate well below fees normally charged.
Dembo believes that raising this amount in an economy that has suffered serious financial reversals demonstrates how PIP's donors understand its role in maintaining the viability of New Jersey nonprofits. She cited the generosity of corporations, foundations and individuals that make it possible for PIP to carry on with its mission to make good nonprofits better.
PIP finds itself in a strong position, able to support nonprofits - especially emerging nonprofits - that are vulnerable to losing staff, commercial space and other important resources. Dembo said, "When nonprofits fail, we all fail to fulfill the obligations we have to people and communities that depend on the educational, humanitarian, artistic and civic programs so critical to our society."
In September, PIP will announce those nonprofits chosen for its 2009-2010 consulting cycle.
Founded in 1991, PIP provides assessment, consulting and training to nonprofit organizations, and since its inception has provided technical assistance, training and professional fundraising consulting services to arts, education, health and human service organizations in all 21 New Jersey counties.
