"For the first time in its twenty-five year history, our not-for-profit organization, the Arts & Education Center, faced a shortfall in funding that could not be covered by program revenues. Our Board of Directors had never engaged in any meaningful fundraising and lacked both the expertise and temperament to begin doing so.
